Join us for the first-of-its-kind massive online professional development experience that will include Annenberg Learner resources, live interaction with National Geographic Explorers and scientists, and new insights into using Google tools. The online course, framed around California's Education and the Environment Initiative (EEI) curriculum for educators, will focus on ocean and freshwater topics and incorporate strategies for teaching environmental topics in grades 4-8. Resources and support will also be provided to use EEI to support the implementation of Common Core State Standards for English-Language Arts (specifically Reading Informational Text, Speaking and Listening, and Literacy in History-Social Studies and Science).
The theme for this course is "Water" and will provide information and resources for 4th-8th grade teachers to understand the importance of water in Earth's natural systems. Teachers will also explore the EEI curriculum, revise and implement a lesson, and reflect on these experiences with colleagues.
The pilot course will begin in mid-June, 2013, and will run for
4 weeks for 8 hours each week through mid-July for a limited number of California teachers. The completed course will be launched in the Fall of 2013 and will include a larger number
of educators from across the state.
If you are interested in participating in either of these professional development opportunities, please complete the following survey by March 30, 2013. Feel free to share this survey with any other interested teachers you may know.
